Lutetium-177-PSMA 

Lu-177 is a radioactive substance that we can add to a carrier called Prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA). Lutetium-177 is an atom that sends out radioactive particles. PSMA joins to your prostate tumor with the radioactive Lutetium atom attached to it. Once in your body, the Lu-177 PSMA attaches to specific tumour cells and destroys these cancerous cells.

It is known to be effective in:

  • prostate cancer

Any Lu-177 PSMA that is not absorbed by the tumor cells passes out of your body in your sweat, saliva, urine and stool.

The Lu-177 PSMA that is trapped in the tumor cells leave the tumor and are passed from your body.

Actinium-225-PSMA

Ac-225 is a radioactive substance that we can add to a carrier called prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA).Actinium-225 is an atom that sends out radioactive particles. PSMA joins to your tumor with the radioactive Actinium atom attached to it. Once in your body, the Ac-225 PSMA attached to specific tumour cells and destroys these cancerous cells.

It is known to be effective in:

  • Prostate cancer

Any Ac-225 PSMA that is not absorbed by the tumor cells passes out of your body in your sweat,saliva,urine and stool. The Ac-225 PSMA that is trapped in the tumor cells leave the tumor and are passed from your body.

NEUROENDOCRINE AND SOMATOSTATIN POSITIVE TUMOURS

Lutetium-177-DOTATATE

Lu-177 is a radioactive substance that we can add to a carrier called DOTATATE. Lutetium-177 is an atom that sends out radioactive particles. Octreotate joins to your neuroendocrine tumor with the

radioactive Lutetium atom attached to it. Once in your body, the Lu-177 DOTATATE attaches to  specific tumour cells and destroys these cancerous cells.

It is known to be effective in:

  • neuroendocrine tumours
  • paragangliomas, neuroblastomas
  • certain types of thyroid cancer

THYROID CANCER

Iodine 131

Oral administration of I131 has been a commonly accepted procedure for treatment of benign and malignant
disorders of the thyroid since the 1940s. 

Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is defined as a carcinoma deriving from the follicular epithelium and retaining basic biological characteristics of healthy thyroid
tissue, including expression of the sodium iodide symporter (NIS), the key cellular feature for specific iodine uptake. DTC is an uncommon disease clinically, but worldwide, its incidence shows a noticeable increase. Consecutive autopsy studies have shown that papillary microcarcinoma
is frequent in the general population. Improved detection of some of these subclinical tumours may account for at least part of the increase in DTC incidence.

When appropriate treatment is given, the prognosis of the disease is generally excellent.

Bone pain is a common symptom of metastatic disease in cancer, experienced with various intensities by about 30% of cancer patients, during the development of
their disease, up to 60–90% in the latest phases.

In addition to other therapies, such as analgesics,bisphosphonates, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and external beam radiotherapy, bone-seeking radiopharmaceuticals are also used for the palliation of pain from bone metastases. Substantial advantages of bone palliation radionuclide therapy include the ability to simultaneously treat multiple sites of disease with a more probable therapeuticeffect in earlier phases of metastatic disease, the ease of administration, the repeatability and the potential integration with the other treatments. 

RADIOSYNOVIORTHESIS

Erbium-169, Rhenium-186, Yttrium-90

Radiosynoviorthesis (RSO) using the intraarticular application of beta-particle emitting radiocolloids has for decades been used for the local treatment of infammatory joint diseases.

The injected radiopharmaceuticals are phagocytized by the superfcial macrophages of the synovial membrane, resulting in sclerosis and fbrosis of the formerly infamed tissue, fnally leading to reduced joint efusion and alleviation of joint pain.

BENIGN THYROID DISEASES

Iodine 131

Iodine is a natural part of your diet. Iodine in your food concentrates in your thyroid gland. Radioiodine is a radioactive form of iodine which gives off radiation. We use radio-iodine in carefully controlled doses to treat an overactive thyroid gland. 

Your symptoms are being caused by your thyroid gland. This gland uses iodine to make thyroid hormones. These are used to regulate many body functions. In your case your thyroid gland is overactive. It is producing too much thyroid hormone. The radioiodine you will be given will concentrate in your thyroid gland. The radiation from it will stop the thyroid gland from functioning and so improve your symptoms.
